"As art director, I asked Judy to evoke a sense of time, place and subject even though there was scant visual historical materials available. The peacock flower, shown in the inset and provided by the author, is central to the story of how plants were used to affect the history of the Caribbean during the slave trade; the other materials were tracked down by Ms. Arisman. A design that could bring the elements of this fascinating history all together was our goal; I was especially impressed with this solution that gracefully brought these elements of ideas and graphics into one coherent and effective presentation."
